YouthGive Africa Contest – Spotlighting African Generosity Through Youth Storytelling
African Voices Script Repository – Nurturing Talent Across the Continent
Description:
As Communications Consultant for GivingTuesday Africa, I conceptualized and led the YouthGive Africa Contest, a continent-wide storytelling initiative designed to document and amplify African giving traditions through the lens of young people. In just four weeks, the contest mobilized 576 youth across 32 countries, spotlighting culturally rooted generosity practices—some previously undocumented—and catalyzing a movement that now includes a pan-African coalition and a post-contest community of practice.
The campaign was designed to engage youth meaningfully in generosity discourse, elevate regional narratives, and expand the body of knowledge on African philanthropy through multimedia storytelling and strategic content rollout.
Outcome:
- 576 entries from 32 countries across Africa and the diaspora
- 150+ top stories spotlighted; 9 finalists and 3 winners selected
- Mapped 20+ African giving traditions, including lesser-known practices
- 99.6% of participants opted into the post-contest community
- Formation of the YouthGive Africa Coalition and YouthGive Community of Practice
- Elevated GivingTuesday Africa’s leadership in youth philanthropy storytelling
